CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system or ECS. The ECS can be found within humans and animals. It is a grouping of receptors found throughout the body, primarily in the brain and central nervous system. Just about every organ or your body contains cannabinoid receptors including the skin. The ECS contains two receptors named CB1 and CB2 and is recognized to promote 4 primary body functions:

  • Neuroprotection
  • Immune Response
  • Homeostasis
  • Stress Relief

CBD does not interact directly with the CB1 and CB2 receptors but rather inhibits certain enzymes that break down the endocannabinoids these receptors respond to. The body naturally produces endocannabinoids that interact with these receptors and with CBD, the ECS is able to operate more effectively.
