CBD, also known as cannabidiol, Is a phytocannabinoid found in the flowers and leaves of the Cannabis Sativa L. plant. It has often been recognized as beneficial and supportive to biological functions in humans and animals. Cannabidiol is just one of the 110+ naturally occurring cannabinoid compounds found in Cannabis Sativa L. Our CBD products are created from certified industrial hemp and may sometimes be referred to as ‘hemp oil’ or ‘CBD hemp oil’.
Is CBD Cannabis?
CBD is derived from the Cannabis Sativa L. plant. Our broad-spectrum hemp/CBD products are made with certified industrial hemp, which is also cannabis. Certified “industrial hemp” is defined by new federal legislation as a product or products derived from Cannabis Sativa L. that contain less than 0.3% delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (D9-THC) on a dry weight basis. THC is a psychoactive component of the cannabis plant that produces the ‘high’ associated with marijuana. Cannabis or ‘marijuana’ plants used for medical marijuana patients typically contain 10-30% THC on a dry weight basis.
Is CBD Illegal?
The 2018 Farm Bill (signed into law on December 20th, 2018) re-schedules industrial hemp and various derivatives thereof, including CBD, from the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) when produced in compliance with a state hemp program. Federally, this allows CBD to no longer be viewed as a “controlled substance”, and qualified CBD can be sold and transported legally across the US. State by state legislation is still changing. We recommend consulting your state law offices for questions about the CBD law in your specific area.
Will CBD make me ‘high’?
CBD is a non-psychoactive compound of the industrial hemp plant and will not make you ‘high’. Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the prominent psychoactive compound found in hemp and marijuana that is often associated with the ‘high’ feeling marijuana users may experience. Certified industrial hemp plants must contain less than 0.3% THC on a dry weight basis to be qualified for use in products. At Prana PrincipleTM, we take this a few a steps further using unique isolation chromatography and thirdparty lab testing to remove THC while retaining important phytocannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. Third party testing is performed on every batch of products we produce to maintain compliance, quality, and potency while maintaining 0.0% THC.
How much CBD is right for me?
Suggested serving size for our tinctures is 0.5mL, and depending on the potency of that product, the amount of CBD varies. The reason we carry products with different potency levels is because no one individual is the same as the next. We naturally have different metabolic rates, weights, conditions, etc. With that being said, we recommend you consult your physician about what the most effective serving
size may be for you.
How does CBD work?
CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system or ECS. The ECS can be found within humans and animals. It is a grouping of receptors found throughout the body, primarily in the brain and central nervous system. Just about every organ in your body contains cannabinoid receptors including the skin. The ECS contains two receptors named CB1 and CB2 and is recognized to promote 4 primary body functions:
CBD does not interact directly with the CB1 and CB2 receptors but rather inhibits certain enzymes that break down the endocannabinoids these receptors respond to. The body naturally produces endocannabinoids that interact with these receptors and with CBD, the ECS is able to operate more effectively.
Where is your hemp grown?
We are vertically integrated with farms in Colorado, Oregon, and the Netherlands. We pride ourselves on premium genetics and supply chain. Our Industrial Hemp is grown and bred to achieve maximum levels of CBD and other beneficial phytocannabinoids, while maintaining extremely low levels of THC. This allows us to continue bringing our customers the products they want consistently, while allowing us to maintain more phytocannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, amino acids, vitamins (B1, B2, B6, D), fatty acids (Omega 3/Omega 6), ketones, and more that create superior hemp and CBD products.
Is CBD is an addictive drug?
CBD has no intoxicating effects and therefore zero value for recreational use. Although it is often pursued for therapeutic effects, there is currently no research suggesting the use of CBD to be habit-forming or addictive.
What is CBD-A?
CBD-A (Cannabidiolic Acid) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in raw cannabis plants and is the parent molecule of CBD. CBD-A is converted to CBD through a process called decarboxylation, which occurs when cannabis is exposed to heat. Once the cannabis plant is heated, CBD-A breaks down from its acid form into CBD. The Chemical structures of CBD and CBD-A are very similar; the only difference is that CBD-A contains an extra COOH group which is removed when decarboxylation occurs. Because CBD-A is not involved with combustion or solvents, it is looked at as a more natural and immaculate material.
Am I able to take my CBD products onto an airplane?
Yes! With the 2018 Farm Bill in place, TSA updated their guidelines: “Products/medications that contain hemp-derived CBD or are approved by the FDA are legal as long as it is produced within the regulations defined by the law under the Agriculture Improvement Act 2018.”
